The Electrical and Controls Engineer in the
organization has the opportunity to
participate in the design, development and
hands-on manufacture of industrial laser marking
systems This role works in conjunction with
mechanical and software engineers to integrate
all elements of the workstation and is
specifically responsible for ensuring the
effective design and function of the power
distribution and industrial controls elements.
In addition to the system design and build, this
person plays a pivotal role as a technical expert
in end-to end business operations and functions,
including customer quotes, system manufacture /
testing and installation as well as assisting
with on-going customer support.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Design and develop industrial lasers systems that
meet customer requirements and meet defined cost
and time constraints by collaborating with
departments across the organization and applying
standard engineering principles, theories,
concepts and design techniques.
Develop new and innovative processes, methods,
components, devices, equipment, products,
applications and quality verifications to address
customer or internal technical problems.
Provide clear technical work instructions,
directions and ad-hoc support to technicians and
assemblers in the build and maintenance of laser
Discuss, understand and/or establish
specifications, requirements and possible
solutions with new customers and installed
customer base support.
Qualify and review new vendor products for
solutions adequacy and quality; determine vendor
capability in design cooperation
Increase company value, while simultaneously
satisfying our customers by focusing on customer
satisfaction and continuous improvement in
quality and reliability.
Special projects and other duties as assigned
-year degree in electrical engineering, controls engineering or similar technical
field OR 2 years of electrical experience
Experience with electrical Schematic (IEC format) and layout capability with
Previous programming experience (i.e. industrial controls languages)
Understanding of design of equipment for industrial use per industrial standards such
as control cabinets/ panels
Must be willing/able travel within North America up to 10%. Some overseas travel
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
Knowledge of applicable UL, CE and CSA requirements.
Experience in design of equipment for industrial use per industrial standards such as
control cabinets/ panels
Understanding of motion Control utilizing industrial solutions i.e. stepper and servo
controls Project management (Microsoft Project) and organizational skills;
demonstrated ability to deliver effective solutions delivered correct and on-time.
Experience with electro-Mechanical design: linear/rotary motion; sensors; intricate
part holding solutions.
Knowledge of controls Standards: ability to execute sound engineering practices,
backed up with hand calcs / programs.
Experience with relays/ switches/ wiring/ ground loops/ e-panel layout in Industrial
Laser apps experience in marking, micro and/or macro industries.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to assist with hands-on prototype design and
builds as well as transfers to production.
Strong process orientation – ability to clearly communicate goals and to translate
into discrete actions, next-steps or processes
Passion for technology and continuously learning –maintains pulse on and stays up
date on latest industry/functional trends, technology and approaches

Strong computer skills (hardware and related software): Visual Basic and/or C++
Competent in Microsoft Office products and efficient in email and internet.
